Working offline

What works without signal, how your work is held and sent, and what needs a connection.

Last updated 4 Oct 2026

Overview

Tradie keeps a copy of your jobs and lists on the phone, so most of your day works without signal. What you do offline is held on the phone and sent, in order, once you are back in coverage.

The Mobile home screen in the Tradie Light theme

Knowing you are offline

The cloud at the bottom of the home screen turns red, and the bar may show Device is OFFLINE. When the connection returns, the cloud goes green.

What works offline

  • Signing in - with your PIN, or your email and password if they match what is stored.
  • Opening jobs you already have, and moving between their tabs.
  • Recording time - Start Work, Stop Work and the Time Sheet.
  • Notes, job status changes and the Health and Safety questionnaire.
  • Filling in and saving forms, including drafts.
  • Materials and purchase orders.
  • Taking photos for a job.

What needs a connection

  • New bookings the office has made since you went offline.
  • Reference documents - they say Documents need a connection to open.
  • Customer history and a customer’s past jobs.
  • Files on a job you have not opened before.
  • Directions, unless your maps app has offline maps.

How your work gets sent

What you didHow it is sent
Notes, status changes, Health and Safety, formsQueued on the phone and sent one by one when you are back online, and each time the app starts
Time entriesSent when the connection returns. Until then the entry says Timesheet not saved to server due to no internet connectivity.
Materials and purchase ordersSent when you next open the home screen online. Until then they are under Unsaved Transactions in View Transactions
PhotosKept on the phone and uploaded later

You do not need to do anything; just open the app once you have signal. If something stays unsent, see Troubleshoot stuck submissions.

Keeping your work safe

  • Do not reinstall the app or clear its data while anything is unsent. That would delete it.
  • Do not use the queue tools in Settings > Storage Info unless support asks you to. Some of them remove unsent items.
  • Open the app with signal before you head somewhere remote, so your jobs and lists are fresh.

Before you go out of coverage

  1. Open the app while you still have signal.
  2. Open the jobs you will be working on, and any files on them you will need.
  3. Check the lists you rely on are recent - Manage Cache in Settings shows how old each one is.
