Log time on a job

Record your hours with Start Work and Stop Work on a job, or on the Time Sheet.

Last updated 13 Oct 2026

Overview

There are two ways to record time. Tap Start Work when you arrive and Stop Work when you finish, and Tradie works out the hours. Or enter the time yourself on the Time Sheet screen.

The Time Sheet screen: date, job, labour code, start and end times

Start Work and Stop Work

The quickest way, because the clock runs for you.

Step by step: time a job as you work
  1. Open the job and tap Start Work on the Info tab.
  2. When you finish, open the job again and tap Stop Work on the Close tab. The jobs list shows Stop Work on that job’s card, so it is easy to find.
  3. The Work Log screen opens with the start and end times filled in. Check them, and choose a Labour Code if it asks.
  4. Tap Save.

The time is added to your timesheet. The bottom of the Work Log screen shows Today’s timesheet entries and their total, so you can see the day add up.

You can only have one job running at a time. If Start Work refuses, stop work on the other job first.

What Stop Work may ask first

Your company can add steps to Stop Work, so you may see one or more of these:

  • A work note, if your company wants a note on every job and you have not added one today.
  • A yes/no question your company has set, which may take you to the Time Sheet if you answer yes.
  • Deduct Lunch Break, to take a break off the time. See Lunch breaks.
  • Scheduled Plant/Equipment, Quick Add Products or Work Notes, to record those as you leave.
  • Timesheet Note, for a note about the time itself. It may show a count of characters left - see A limit on the note below.
  • Follow Through Work, for work the job needs another day.

The Time Sheet screen

For time you did not clock with Start Work, or a day you are catching up on. Open Time Sheet from the home screen.

Step by step: add a time entry
  1. Check the Date at the top. Use the arrows to move to another day.
  2. Tap Select Job and choose the job.
  3. Check the Labour Code, and the Cost Centre if your company uses them.
  4. Set the Start time and End time, or use the +0:15, +0:30 and +1:00 buttons (and their minus partners) to set the hours.
  5. Add a Note if the office needs to know anything about the time.
  6. Tap Add to timesheet.

The entry appears under New timesheet entries, with the day’s total. When the day is complete, save the timesheet - see Submit your timesheet.

Depending on your company you may also see:

  • Preset buttons across the top that fill in a common entry for you.
  • Callout, to mark the time as a callout.
  • Override Product Description, to change the line’s description in your accounting system.
  • Add lunch break, to record a break. See Lunch breaks.

A limit on the note

Your company can keep the note to what fits on one line in its accounting system. When it does, a count under the Note box shows how much room is left, such as 44 of 62 characters left, and the box takes no more text once the line is full.

  • The room can change as you fill in the entry. A labour code with a longer description leaves less room for the note.
  • If the count turns red and says the note is over the limit, shorten the note before you tap Add to timesheet. Tradie will not add the entry until it fits.
  • If it says there is no room for a note, the description already fills the line. Leave the note empty, or ask the office about it.

Labour codes

A labour code says what kind of work the time was. You can only choose from the codes the office has given you. If the one you need is missing, ask the office to add it to your user.

Offline

Time entries made without signal are kept on the phone and sent when you are back in coverage. Until then, an entry that has not reached the office says Timesheet not saved to server due to no internet connectivity. See Working offline.

Troubleshooting

  • Start Work does nothing. Another job is still running. Stop it first.
  • The labour code you need is not in the list. Ask the office to assign it to you.
  • An entry is wrong. Fix it before you save the timesheet - see Edit logged time.
