Record a video on a job
Record a short video on the job's Create tab and upload it for the office.
When a photo will not do - a noise, a leak, how something moves - record a short video on the job. It is recorded inside the app, at a size your company has chosen, so it uploads in a reasonable time. Once uploaded it is sent to your job system and the office can watch it.
Record Video only shows if your company has switched it on. See Allow Video Recording on Jobs.
Step by step: record a video
- Open the job and go to the Create tab.
- Scroll to Image Attachments and tap Record Video.
- Allow the camera and microphone if your phone asks.
- Tap the red button to start, and again to stop. The clock shows how long you have left.
- Watch it back, then tap Use video. Tap Retake to record it again, or Discard to close without keeping it.
- Type a note beside the video saying what it shows. The note goes onto the job, and the video is named after it.
- Tap Upload Photos / Videos.
The video shows under Videos on the job as soon as it has uploaded, with your note underneath. It says Sending until your job system has it. You can play it either way.
Notes and file names
A video with a note is named after it, so the office can tell videos apart in the job’s files:
a note of “Leak behind the cylinder” gives a file called something like
Leak behind the cylinder-7d57.mp4. Punctuation and symbols are left out of the name, and a
long note is cut short. The note itself is kept in full on the job. A video with no note is
named by the date and time it was taken.
Type the note before you upload. Changing it afterwards does not rename the video.
How long a video can be
Your company sets the longest video you can record, usually one minute. Recording stops by itself when you reach it, and keeps what you have recorded. If you need longer, record a second video.
Adding a video already on your phone
If your company allows it there is also an Add Video button, for a video you have already taken. It has to be within the same length and size limits. A video taken with your phone’s own camera is usually too big, and the app will say so. Record it with Record Video instead.
Without signal
A video you have recorded stays on the phone until it is uploaded. If the upload is interrupted it carries on from where it stopped the next time you tap Upload Photos / Videos; it does not start again. Videos need signal to play.
Troubleshooting
- There is no Record Video button. Your company has not switched video on, or your job system cannot take videos yet. Ask the office.
- “Camera access is blocked for this site.” Allow the camera for the app in your browser’s site settings, then tap Record Video again.
- It says it is recording without sound. The microphone is blocked. The video still records. Allow the microphone in your browser’s site settings if you need sound.
- The upload failed. The video is still on your phone. Tap Upload Photos / Videos to try again, or Remove if you no longer want it.
